Courageous Train Staff Member Endures Life-Threatening Wounds During Multiple Knife Incident on Express Train

A valiant train staff member who stepped in to save travelers during a multiple stabbing attack on a high-speed train has suffered critical injuries, police stated on Sunday.

Details of the Terrifying Incident

CCTV footage allegedly depicts the employee trying to halt the attacker as the train journeyed between Peterborough and Huntingdon in Cambridgeshire. Witnesses described a frightening 14-minute period after the train left Peterborough, with bloodied passengers running through compartments.

The individual, a 32-year-old citizen from Peterborough, is in custody for questioning. Police announced a major incident on the 6:25 pm service from Peterborough to King's Cross in central London.

Emergency Reaction and Consequences

The event on Saturday night led to 11 people being cared for in hospital after the train made an unscheduled stop at the station in Huntingdon. Several individuals have since been discharged from medical care.

A witness filmed the suspect brandishing a large knife and being subdued with a stun device as he faced officers on the platform. He was allegedly heard shouting, "Kill me, kill me."

“This was a horrific attack that has had a wide impact. Our sympathies go out to the injured and their loved ones – particularly the courageous member of train personnel whose family are being assisted by specialist personnel,” stated a senior police official.

Union Reaction and Appeals for Action

Train associations were swift to praise employees and demand more action. One union leader stated he would be “requesting immediate meetings with government, train companies and police to guarantee that we have the best possible support, resources and robust procedures in place”.

A different association representative urged the train operator and authorities “to move swiftly to review safety, to help the affected workers, and to make sure that no incident like this happens again”.

Operator Commended for Quick Thinking

The operator who halted the service at Huntingdon was described as being “very shaken” but “well”, and has been commended by union officials for doing “exactly the right thing”.

“The driver did not stop the service in the middle of two stations where it’s obviously difficult for the emergency services to access, but he continued traveling until he got to Huntingdon, where the response was pretty much already there,” explained a association representative.

Additional Details

Police said they received the initial distress reports at 7:39 pm, and the service was forced to make an unplanned stop in Huntingdon at 7:50 pm.

An witness recounted initially thinking if the event was a Halloween joke, but soon understood from individuals' expressions that it was serious.

Authorities have confirmed there is no evidence to suggest the event was a terrorist incident and have asked the public to come forward with any further details.

Train services on the impacted route are anticipated to experience disruption until the following day, with passengers advised to defer their journeys where feasible.

Individuals with information that could assist the investigation are asked to reach police by texting a designated number with a case code.
